Located on one of the main drags of hip Monti, with all the nightlife and authentic dining you’ll need, Duca d’Alba strikes a fine balance between old-world gentility and 21st-century amenities. Rooms in the main building are snug and contemporary, with modern furniture and gadgetry but tiny bathrooms. If you want to spring for slightly higher rates, the spacious annex rooms next door have a palazzo character, with terracotta floors, oak and cherry furniture, and soundproofed street-facing rooms. Second-floor rooms are the brightest.
